He started his career at Western Economic Association, USA (Warner Bros Records) in the early 1990s as a designer. He is also an image maker producing collage works, which absorb the worlds of fashion, popular culture and art Some of this work can also be seen on numerous book covers and record sleeves such as Goldfrapp, Beck and Pleasure, a Norwegian band, for whom he is also a featured vocalist and songwriter.
Maitland"s design work on the White Lies album To Lose My Life.. earned him the number seven spot on the Art Vinyl Top 20 Albums of the Year.
In 2014, Maitland designed the record covers for XScape, a posthumous album of Michael Jackson unreleased tracks.
