Mateo was born on March 11, 1984, and grew up in the suburbs of Bogotá - Colombia.

He attended high school at Colegio San Carlos.
He currently plays guitar and synthesiser in the band Little Bitter Cubes. He moved to the United States and enrolled at the Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida for recording/audio engineering, which is where he met fellow Madina Lake bandmate Dan Torelli. As well as being the guitarist, Mateo also did programming, added synths, and laid effects and electronic beats to add to the band"s sound.
Mateo was previously in a band called Reforma with Dan Torelli that relocated to Chicago.
The two of them met Nathan and Matthew Leone from The Blank Theory, and quickly befriended them. Mateo played guitar for them shortly before The Blank Theory disbanded, and the four of them formed Madina Lake.
Mateo also wrote and co-produced the track "Danger" on Hilary Duff"s 2007 album Dignity. In 2009, he produced "The Vice Verses European Parliament" for the hip-hop/rock duo, Deadbeatz Incorporated.
Mateo produced, co-wrote, engineered and mixed V for Volume"s debut album "providence", who have just signed a publishing deal with BMI. He also produced, engineered and mixed the latest Madina Lake album "WW3".
He worked with Billy Corgan on the song "Imagineer".
Mateo wrote the songs "Desde que te Fuiste" and "Aunque Maine Mientas" for the platinum selling album "Primera Fila" by the Mexican singer Alejandra Guzmán. He also produced and engineered the song "23" from Shakira"s latest album "Shakira".
