He won a stage in the 1989 Tour de France. Hermans was more successful in the Vuelta a España, where he won 9 stages in total. Hermans has admitted to have used EPO during his career, including to win a stage of the 1989 Tour de France which makes him the earliest confirmed professional cyclist using the drug.
