Believed to have been a disciple of Monzaemon Chikamatsu, the great joruri playwright.
He was productive for about 30 years, and was the most active after 1730. Many of his works were collaborations with Senshi Hasegawa. The most well-known among those works are Kiichi Hogen Sanryaku-no-maki and Goshozakum Horikawa Youchi, which are stories of Yoshitsune Minamoto and still often played in Kabuki theaters.
