He has also played in the State Basketball League for the Perry Lakes Hawks, and has spent time in the Qatari Basketball League and the Big V.
Burston debuted in the NBL for the Perth Wildcats in the 2000-2001 season, and played for them until 2006. In April 2006, Burston signed a one-year deal with the South Dragons. Burston spent much of the 2006-2007 season injured, playing only a handful of games.
On 22 June 2009, Burston signed with the Adelaide 36ers for the 2009-2010 NBL season.
In 2010, Burston moved back to Melbourne and signed with the Tigers where he spent three seasons. On 25 July 2013, Burston signed a one-year deal with the Cairns Taipans.
On 30 May 2014, he re-signed with the Taipans on a two-year deal.
He remained with the Dragons for two more seasons and was a member of the 2009 championship-winning team
