Harris is the son of Jay R. Harris and Nancy Lee Harris, both professors at Harvard Medical School, and the brother of Good Morning America Weekend anchor Dan Harris.

Career
He co-founded Village Ventures with fellow Williams College graduate Bo Peabody. In 2001, Village Ventures, Incorporated., and more specifically Harris" role in it, was written up as a case study in Harvard Business Review. In 2004, Harris married filmmaker Jessica Glass (born 1975), whose father is a physician.
Glass was the producer of On Common Ground, a film about reconciliations of former German and American soldiers from World World War II, and Swimming on the Moon.
Glass received her bachelor"s degree from Harvard University and her Master of Business Administration from Columbia University. Matt and Jessica have one child.
