Career
Lewis began taking photographs in the mid-1950s. He graduated from Morgan State University. He freelanced for the Baltimore Afro-American, was managing editor of photography for The Washington Post where he retired in 1992, and was also a staff photographer with the Thomasville Times in Davidson County, North Carolina.
