His research interests include the application of positive political theory to public law. He has served as a consultant to the World Bank and as Special Rapporteur for the Commission on the Legal Empowerment of the Poor. Prior to joining the Harvard faculty, Professor Stephenson clerked for senior Judge Stephen Williams on the District of Columbia Circuit and for Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court.
He is the co-author of the casebook Legislation and Regulation (Foundation Press, 2010).
He received his Juris Doctor and his Doctor of Philosophy (political science) from Harvard in 2003 and his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard in 1997. He has an Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College (1997), a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School (2003) and a Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard University in Political Science (2003).
He has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of Chicago (2010).
