Maze, Matthew T. was born on November 16, 1857 in Lewisville, Indiana, United States. Son of Wesley A. and Sarah B. (Pratt) Maze.

Educated normal school, Danville, Indiana.

Career

Teacher public schools, Indiana. Went to Nebraska, 1883, on account of ill health. Entered ministry Evangelical Church, 1888.

Various pastorates, also presiding elder, 1896-1903 and 1906-1914.

Superintendent missions, Kansas and Oklahoma, 1902-1903. Field secretary Western Union College, Lemars, Iowa, 1916-1918.

Elected bishop, October 1918 and for 4th term, 1930, designated bishop emeritus, 1934. President Board of Publication and Board of Church Extension, Board Home and Foreign Missions.

Member Federal Council of Churches in America (administrative and policy committees), chairman Commision on Union of United Evangelical Church (negotiations resulted in union of Evangelical and United Evangelical associations), 1922.

President Pennsylvania State Council of Churches, since 1933.
