Elizabeth. Learned printer’s trade. Aided in establishing the Cleveland Citizen, February 1891, and has edited it since 1892. Paper was Populist until 1896, since then trade union organ of the Cleveland Federation of Labor.
Was nominated for vice president United States at National Convention Socialist Labor Party at Rochester, New York, February 2, 1900, but resigned from ticket 2 months later when that party united With Social Democratic Party.
Candidate for Congress, 21st Ohio District, 1900, for secretary of state Ohio (Socialist party), 1902. Held many positions of trust in trade unions and the Socialist organizations
Elected by National Convention American Federation of Labor, November 1902, fraternal delegate to British Trade Union Congress, Leicester, England, September 1903. Chairman of the executive committee National Labor Party, 1919.
