( An active and innovative approach to making words that ...)
An active and innovative approach to making words that teachers and their students have grown to love is finally here! Based on its highly successful parent text, Phonics They Use, this new grade-level series Making Words offers teachers a fresh multi-level activity and lesson series written for the kindergarten through fifth grade classroom. Pat Cunningham and Dottie Hall present classroom teachers with effective tools for strengthening phonics and spelling skills that encourage students to move beyond learning and into a world of word discovery. Each research-based volume includes a wealth of friendly, hands-on, manipulative activities that guide teachers in teaching the development of words--from phonemic awareness to spelling. In Making Words Second Grade, Pat and Dottie introduce second grade teachers to 100 lessons that teach all the phonics, spelling, and phonemic awareness skills included in most second grade curricula. Each Making Words activity leads children through a systematic and sequential phonics curriculum. All lessons include practice with the phonemic awareness skills of segmenting and blending as children stretch out words they are making and blend the letters to make new words. Because teaching children letter-sound relationships is easier than teaching children to actually use these letter-sound relationships, all lessons include a transfer step in which children apply the sounds they are learning to spelling new words. Making Words Second Grade is the best resource you can have on hand for motivating your students to learn words! • Features 100 fun and interactive lessons for building phonemic awareness, phonics, and spelling skills. • Presents a concise method for involving students in the process of identifying phonological units and patterns within words. • Promotes student awareness of similarities in words that helps develop writing skills. • Includes reproducible letter tiles, record sheets for each lesson, and take-home sheets to copy, cut, and/or laminate. • Highlights a list of useful children's books to extend the Making Words lesson.

(This report was created for global strategic planners who...)
This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a “borderless world”, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "finished cattle hide and kip side shoulder splits, deep buffs, buffing, fleshers, and other leather splits" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world's cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

(Written by the former Warden of the Iona community, this ...)
Written by the former Warden of the Iona community, this book reflects on the stages of life as seen by Celtic tradition. Step by step the author describes our pilgrimage from the invitation of birth, through the passions of youth and adulthood, to the wisdom of experience, to death's return to God. Each stage has its own grace that can be awakened at any time and that can release our inborn passion and creativity, the traces of the divine image woven into the very fabric of our being. This Celtic focus is unique among today's "life stages" books. One Foot in Eden concentrates on the Celtic celebration of the essential goodness of life--not to deny evil and sin but to rejoice in redemption. Drawing from the Benedictine tradition of meditation, from lectio divina, from Celtic saints, and from Celtic literature, the book helps brush away our layers of confusion to find what is deepest and truest in each of us. Each chapter is a graceful meditation on a stage of life, ending with an exercise that can be used by either individuals or groups--perfect for spiritual seekers, those interested in their heritage, those interested in creation spirituality, as well as members of prayer groups, seasonal parish programs, and small faith communities.

One of the most influental political science works written in the post World War II era, the original edition of Essence of Decision is a unique and fascinating examination of the pivotal event of the cold Cold War. Not simply revised, but completely re-written, the Second Edition of this classic text is a fresh reinterpretation of the theories and events surrounding the Cuban Missle Crisis, incorporating all new information from the Kennedy tapes and recently declassified Soviet files. Essence of Decision Second Edition, is a vivid look at decision-making under pressure and is the only single volume work that attempts to answer the enduring question: how should citizens understand the actions of their government?

(This Poetry Book Society Special Commendation collection ...)
This Poetry Book Society Special Commendation collection brings together for the first time the whole range of Philip Gross's poetry-a generous selection from his previous books, along with uncollected poems and work from limited editions and collaborations. It shows his development from the prize-winning Ice Factory to the Whitbread-short listed Wasting Game, but also takes the reader into previously unknown reaches of Philip Gross territory. With its humor and deep honesty, its vivid storytelling, its sense of history and brilliant observations of the here and now, this book of poems is as rich and multi-layered as a novel.

(This study covers the latent demand outlook for diaries, ...)
This study covers the latent demand outlook for diaries, time planners and organizers, appointment books, and associated refills excluding loose-leaf binders across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as “regions”). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of “economic population”, as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this “economic” definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city’s marketing and distribution value vis-à-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for diaries, time planners and organizers, appointment books, and associated refills excluding loose-leaf binders. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study covers the latent demand outlook for diaries, time planners and organizers, appointment books, and associated refills excluding loose-leaf binders across the states, union territories and cities of India. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 5,000 cities in India. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it’s state or union territory and of India as a whole is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-à-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state or union territory and city, latent demand estimates are created for diaries, time planners and organizers, appointment books, and associated refills excluding loose-leaf binders. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. (This study covers the world outlook for full-grain and gr...)
This study covers the world outlook for full-grain and grain-split cattle hide and kip side bag, case, and strap leather excluding offal and welting leather across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

( Piping and Pipeline Calculations Manual, Second Edition...)
Piping and Pipeline Calculations Manual, Second Edition provides engineers and designers with a quick reference guide to calculations, codes, and standards applicable to piping systems. The book considers in one handy reference the multitude of pipes, flanges, supports, gaskets, bolts, valves, strainers, flexibles, and expansion joints that make up these often complex systems. It uses hundreds of calculations and examples based on the author's 40 years of experiences as both an engineer and instructor. Each example demonstrates how the code and standard has been correctly and incorrectly applied. Aside from advising on the intent of codes and standards, the book provides advice on compliance. Readers will come away with a clear understanding of how piping systems fail and what the code requires the designer, manufacturer, fabricator, supplier, erector, examiner, inspector, and owner to do to prevent such failures. The book enhances participants' understanding and application of the spirit of the code or standard and form a plan for compliance. The book covers American Water Works Association standards where they are applicable. • Updates to major codes and standards such as ASME B31.1 and B31.12 • New methods for calculating stress intensification factor (SIF) and seismic activities • Risk-based analysis based on API 579, and B31-G • Covers the Pipeline Safety Act and the creation of PhMSA

Ocean Country is an adventure story, a call to action, and a poetic meditation on the state of the seas. But most importantly it is the story of finding true hope in the midst of one of the greatest crises to face humankind, the rapidly degrading state of our environment. After a near-drowning accident in which she was temporarily paralyzed, Liz Cunningham crisscrosses the globe in an effort to understand the threats to our dazzling but endangered oceans. This intimate account charts her thrilling journey through unexpected encounters with conservationists, fishermen, sea nomads, and scientists in the Mediterranean, Sulawesi, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and Papua, New Guinea.
