In 2006 she led an international scientific program to install a major astronomical observatory in Antarctica. Chadid received her Doctor of Philosophy from the Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, in 1996, discovering and explaining hypersonic shock waves in pulsating stars. She then joined the Centre national de la recherche scientifique in Montpelier.
From 1998 to 2001 she worked on installation of the Very Large Telescope in Chile and in 2002 joined the Observatoire de la côte d"azur.
In 2006 Chadid was appointed by the Institut polaire français Paul-Émile Victor to lead an expedition to install telescopes for a new astronomical observatory at the Concordia Research Station in Antarctica. She was the first woman astronomer, and first Moroccan, to set foot in Antarctica.
