Background

Smith, Meriwether was born in 1730 in “Bathurst,” Essex County, Virginia, United States. Son of Colonel Francis and Lucy (Meriwether) Smith.

Career

Delegate to Continental Congress, 1778-1782, offered a scheme of finance to Congress, 1781 (not accepted).
