Associated with his brother, Burnham Hoyt, under the name of M. H. S B. Hoyt. After first being employed in the office of Fisher & Fisher, he began practice for himself, then in 1917 joined his brother in partnership. Their works in Denver included the folowing buildings, Park Hill Library, 1920; Highlands Masonic Temple, 1921; Additions to the State National Bank, 1924; Nurses’ Home at the Children’s Hospital, and St. John’s Parish House, 1926.
Mr. Hoyt was also one of the Allied Architects of the new City Hall in Denver, and planned a later addition to the building, as well as many fine residences in the city and environs.

Merrill H Hoyt was an active and respected member of Denver design, business and cultural community. He served as a President and vice president of the Colorado Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the secretary of the Allied Architects Association who designed the City and County Building of Denver, and vice president of the Denver Building and Loan Association.

On October 4, 1907, he married Ethel Fowler in Silver Bow, Montana.
