Career
He is the current Court Equerry (chief of the Royal Mews in Stockholm). Melin did his conscription at Norrlands dragonregemente (K4) in Umeå. He was then a professional officer in a dozen cities in Sweden.
In the late 1970s, he was the first Swede in a two-month training at the United States. Army Ranger School, Fort Benning, Georgia.
Melin was the last in the Swedish Army who held the title Chief of Army Staff (Chef för arméledningen), equivalent to the previous position Head of the Army (Chefen för Armén), before the post was changed to the Army Inspector (Arméinspektör) and was reduced in rank from Lieutenant General to Major General. Melin was then military commander of the Northern Military Area, and thereafter Sweden"s representative in the European Union Military Committee.
