2012 Barbieri was unopposed for both the September 11, 2012 Democratic Primary and the November 6, 2012 General election, winning with 7,501 votes. 2006 Barbieri was unopposed for the September 12, 2006 Democratic Primary, but lost the November 7, 2006 General election to incumbent Republican Representative and Speaker of the House Terry R. Spence, who had held the seat since 1987.
2008 Barbieri and Spence were unopposed for their September 9, 2008 primaries, setting up a rematch. Barbieri won the November 4, 2008 General election with 4,164 votes (520%) against incumbent Republican Representative Terry Spence (who had also qualified and received votes as the Working Families Party nominee). 2010 Barbieri and Spence were again unopposed for their September 17, 2010 primaries, setting up a third contest. Barbieri won the November 2, 2010 General election with 3,115 votes (530%) against Spence (who was again receiving votes under two parties).
