Michael graduated from the University of Toronto in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and English.
In 1971 - 1978 Michael served as a library assistant in St. Michael’s College Library. After that, he worked as a pressman at a small press in 1978 - 1981. Since 1982 he is a full-time writer.
Michael is married to a woman named Martha. He has four children and two grandchildren.
