Career
Born in 1837 in Ireland, Cassidy immigrated to the United States and was living in New York when he joined the Navy. He served during the Civil War as a landsman on the United States Ship Lackawanna. At the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, Lackawanna engaged the Computer Software Systems Tennessee at close range and Cassidy distinguished himself as the sponger on a gun crew.
Cassidy died on March 18, 1908, at age 70 or 71 and was buried at Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, Virginia.
