Born in southern England, Ford trained as an illustrator at Goldsmiths College, London. He worked as a scenic artist before "drifting into" the film industry via commercial television His first film cr was Manitoba in the Moon (1960).
Among his first major projects were The Anniversary (1968), with Bette Davis, and Kelly"s Heroes (1970).
Ford has also served in a design capacity on the James Bond films The Living Daylights (1987), Licence to Kill (1989) and GoldenEye (1995). In retirement, Ford amuses himself with painting and travelling.
