Monico received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University in 1969. Four years later he earned his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University.
Monico began his career as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois in 1973 and held the position for four years. He served as a captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1975 to 1979. In 1982, Michael held a position of a member of General Assembly at Illinois State Bar Association.
He was admitted to the United States Supreme Court in 1981, United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit in 1973, United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit in 1983, United States Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit in 1989, United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois in 1973 and United States District Court Central District of Illinois in 1983.
Since 1985 Michael has been a member of White Collar Crime Committee at American Bar Association. In 1991, he became a president at Illinois Attorneys for Criminal Justice, where he worked until 1992. In 1999, he was appointed a chairman of Criminal Law Committee in Criminal Justice Section at the same association. Then in 2000, Monico became a chairman of Judicial Evaluation Committee in Investigations Division at Chicago Bar Association and held the position for a year. In 2010, Michael took a position of a president of Seventh Circuit Bar Association.
Over the last thirty-five years, Monico has represented clients in white collar, health care fraud, antitrust, public corruption, mail, wire and securities fraud and foreign corrupt practices investigations throughout the United States and around the globe. He regularly speaks at seminars on trial advocacy and criminal justice issues throughout the country and has taught trial advocacy at NITA as well as at Chicago area law schools. Nowadays, he is a partner of Monico & Spevack.
Monico was a president of the American Board of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
Michael Monico is married to Tricia Monico. They have two children.
