Michael Reaves is an American novelist, scriptwriter and story editor. Also, he is known as a writer of media tie-in novels, children's books and original fiction. However, Reaves is mostly known for his work on "Gargoyles" and "Batman: The Animated Series".

Background

Michael Reaves was born on September 14, 1950, in San Bernardino, California, United States. He is a son of James Leo Reaves and Luna Mae (Donaldson) Reaves.

Education

In 1974, Michael received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from California State University, San Bernardino.

Career

An aspiring science fiction writer since his teens, Michael Reaves sold his first short story in 1972, after attending the prestigious Clarion Workshop in science fiction at Clarion College, Pennsylvania. Since that time, he has established a reputation for combining genres in his work — for instance, science fiction and fantasy — and for writing for children and young adults, as well as adult readers.

In 1984, Reaves performed development work for "GoBots", working at Hanna-Barbera, an American animation studio. That year, he also carried out the same work for "Pole Position", working at DiC Entertainment. Moreover, in 1984, Michael acted as a story editor, developer and writer for "Mighty Orbots" at TMS Entertainment, a Japanese animation studio.

In 1985, Reaves performed development work for "Spinetinglers" at Southern Star Productions (present-day Endemol Australia). The following year, in 1986, he held a post of a story editor and writer for "My Little Pony" at Sunbow Productions (present-day Sunbow Entertainment). In 1989, Michael wrote for "The Ugly Dinosaur" at Southern Star.

Between 1989 and 1990, he worked as a story editor and writer for "Peter Pan and the Pirates". During the period from 1991 till 1993, Reaves held the same positions, writing for "Batman: The Animated Series" at Warner Bros. entertainment company. In 1993, he acted as a story editor and writer for "Conan and the Young Warriors", working at Sunbow Productions. Later, in 1997, Michael began working as a writer and producer at DreamWorks SKG.

Since 2004, Michael has been collaborating extensively with co-authors.

Personality

Physical Characteristics: Reaves has Parkinson's Disease and for a time maintained a blog, concerning his experiences, dealing with the disease and its effects. Typing is now difficult for him, and by his own account, he has lost the ability to speak coherently.

Michael married Brynne Stephens, a writer, on January 18, 1987. Their marriage produced one child — Mallory Lynne, also a writer. Later, Michael and Brynne divorced.
