He studied at the Vilnius University and graduated in 1818.
He lived in Warsaw since 1836. He became one of the founders of the scientific and literary magazine "Biblioteka
Warszawska". Since 1847 Michail Ignatovich lived mainly in Yashunah, but he often visited Vilnius. Since the foundation (1855) he was the vice-chairman of the Vilna Archaeological Commission. Michail Ignatovich wrote a three-volume history of
Vilna (1836-1837) and work on the history of the Vilnius Jesuit Academy and the University (1862).
