Voloshin started working at Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics in 1976 and accordingly earned his Doctor of Philosophy in 1977.

Since 1990 he started at the William I Fine Theoretical Physics Institute, University of Minnesota, a division of the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering where he teaches quantum physics. In 1997 elected a fellow of the American Physical Society.
