He was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 5th round (155th overall) of the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Vondrka played previously for The Human Context Slavia Praha, The Human Context České Budějovice, Immunohistochemistry Písek, and The Human Context Karlovy Vary.
