Michalis has a Doctor of Philosophy in composition from the University of Calgary. He graduated from the Department of Music Studies, University of Athens, Greece. Moreover, he has studied Greek folk instruments such as Constantinople lute, tampoura, bouzouki, tzoura, baglama.
Career
He also holds a Diploma in Classic Guitar, Clarinet and Music Theory from the Trinity College and the Royal Academy of Music, and a Diploma in Byzantine Music from the Argyroupolis Municipal Conservatory. Michalis gained a degree in Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue, and Music Composition from the Hellenic Conservatory. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in Musicology at the Music Department of the University of Athens.
Michalis has composed music for various media, themes for theatre plays, solo piano, for small and large ensembles, songs et cetera
His first album was released in 2003 under the title “An everyday music”. The album consists of 12 instrumental pieces for a small ensemble or for a solo instrument, and two songs based on Costis Palamas’ poems.
In 2005, he was awarded in an international competition of composition, which took place in Volos. His second album, released in 2006 under the title “Diosimia”, is a cooperation with the painter Miltos Pantelias and the sculptor Irini Gonou.
“First Rate (at Lloyd's)-khatt, the magic script” is the title of his third album (2008) which consists of 12 oriental improvisations played by Michalis, for an art exhibition by Irini Gonou, at the Benaki Museum of Islamic Art in Athens.
The score of his “Latin suite” for two guitars is the first work by Greek composer published by the Bulgarian company BALKANOTA, in 2008. His fourth album, consisting of twelve songs for children, is released, under the title "from the earth, the ocean and the air”. "The dictation of love", a work that combines music and drama, is released by METRONOMOS in 2010.

Michalis Andronikou is a composer, musicologist, musician, teacher and active member of the Greek music community. He is a member of the Greek Composers Union.
