Michele Granger

Background

Mrs. Granger was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, United States, on March 23, 1949. She was a daughter of Leo J. (a police captain) and Elizabeth (a homemaker; maiden name Roche) Letendre.

Education

Michele Granger graduated from University of Massachusetts, obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. In 1974 she earned Master of Education degree from Georgia State University.

Career

From 1971 to 1973 Mrs. Granger served at Williamsburg Public Schools, Williamsburg, MA, as a first grade teacher. Between 1974 and 1977 she worked as a teacher at DeKalb County Schools, Avondale and Decatur, GA.

During the period of 1976-1978 Mrs. Granger held the post of a chairperson at Department of Early Childhood/Special Education. In 1980-1983 she was a parent educator at Fairfax County Adult Education, Fairfax County, VA. In 1984 she was aapointed educational supervisor at Montclair State College, Upper Montclair, NJ. Since 1985 she became a member of adjunct faculty at the same college.

Starting from 1985 Michele Granger served at Children’s Hospital, Newark, as a teacher in early intervention and AIDS intervention program. Later she became a volunteer with local schools and local food programs.

Mrs. Granger lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with her husband, Bob, daughters, one shaggy dog, and two cats — all of whom give her many ideas for stories.

• Michele Granger is an outstanding author who is widely known for her works, the most important of which is Fifth Grade Fever, where Mrs.Granger realistically captures the emotions and activities that are a part of the elementary school-age experience.

Personality

Michele Granger was a bookish child with a rich fantasy life who loved school — all of it, except maybe the math. She didn’t even mind those excruciating round robin reading exercises. They gave her the chance to read the novel that she often had hidden inside of her textbook.

It was in fifth grade that Mrs.Granger first began to believe that if she didn’t become a nun or a nightclub singer, maybe she’d be a writer.
