Background

The son of Masamichi Koga.

Career

Obtained an influential position in the Shogunate through Yoritomo Minamoto. Later intrigued with Tango-no-Tsubone (con¬sort of Emperor Goshirakawa) against Kanezane Kujo, official of the Shogunate, and after giving his daughter-in-law as a concubine to Emperor Gotoba was able to oust Kujo and his clique from power. Later appointed Minister of Imperial Household, then general in the Imperial Guards.
