Became a secretary of the Senate of the government. Studied the Imperial household system and was concurrently professor at the First Higher School and the Higher Normal School. Was appointed instructor at Tokyo University. Specializing in the ancient history of Japan, China and Korea, he corrected errors in the traditional chronology of Japan. Studied the ancient history of Mongolia and translated a Chinese history of the Yuan (Mongolian) Dynasty.
