Midori Inoue was born in Tokyo, second son of Shoko Inoue, scholar of Himeji feudal lord.
Midori Inoue studied in the special Chinese language section of the Foreign Language School, and taught the Chinese students in Japan the Japanese language as professor of Kobun Gakuin School (1906).
Midori Inoue was invited by the Chinese government and proceeded to Keishi (Ching-Shih) Law School at Peking as professor (1909). Returned to Japan (1911) appointed professor of the Osaka Foreign Language School (1922). During this period published "The Chinese Dictionary" and "The Japanese-Chmese Dictionary",establishing the fame of Inoue's Chinese Text-book. Retired (1936). After World War II published Inoue's New Chinese Dictionary.
