Mihai A. Popescu, Romanian physicist, researcher. Achievements include introduction in 1978 of the concept of extended order in amorphous materials (now the medium-range order or intermediate range order); discovery of extended structure of the X-ray Raman edge and of the X-ray resonant Raman edge in solid state physics. Recipient C. Miculescu award, Academy Romania, 1978, S. R. Ovshinsky prize, 2004. Member of Romanian Society Physics.
