Michael Christopher "Mike" Adams is a former college American football wide receiver.
Education
At the University of Texas, Mike Adams was a three-time first team All Conference wide receiver. Adams earned freshman of the year honors per the Austin American Statesman in 1992. He was an All-Southwest Conference player in 1993 and 1995.
He was a third team All-Big 12 Conference player in 1996.
He graduated as Utah"s all-time leading receiver and set several other school records including the record for consecutive games with a reception, career 100-yard receiving games, career kickoff and punt return yards, career catches, touchdowns for receivers, and all purpose yards, besting Earl Campbells mark. Adams was elected team Most Valuable Player in 1993.
Adams was also a three time semi-finalist for the Belitnikoff award, given to the nation"s best receiver.
Career
He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1997 and received cr for two years in the NFL. Adams was the first football player from the Arlington Independent School District (Sam Houston) to be drafted by an NFL team Adams was drafted in the 7th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Adams was a major contributor on special teams as a return specialist and had his best game against the Colts, returning 5 kickoffs for 123 yards.
Unfortunately, Adams was injured on a kickoff return at the start of the second half.
Adams played through the injury, not knowing that he had significant damage to his anterior cruciate ligament or Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Adams was put on injured reserves the following week, as he had surgery to repair the ligament. Adams recorded one catch during the season, a 39-yard reception from quarterback Kordell Stewart.
Adams resumed his career after surgery in the Canadian Football League in the year 2000 for the B.C Lions. Adams started his first game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and caught a 67-yard bomb from the older brother of NFL hall of famer Marcus Allen.
Adams garnered player of the game honors in his second game, as he caught 5 receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Adams was eventually drafted by the upstart Xtreme Football League or XFL in 2000. He was the 75th pick overall by the San Francisco Demons. Due to existing knee problems stemming from the University of Texas and Pittsburgh, Adams was forced to retire from professional football in 2001.
He is the former assistant head football coach and former head track coach at Manor High School in Manor, Texas.
Adams is currently an assistant principal at Manor High School.
