Made his singing debut in Riga, 1923. Sang as a cantor in synagogues in Manchester and Kaunas. After the Soviet annexation of Lithuania in 1940 his fame spread to the Soviet Union.
Made many records but was not allowed to perform in the West. Emigrated to the USA, 1971. Wrote la Pomniu, Munich, 1985 (Memoirs).
