1953-1955 administered Finnish parishes and monasteries under jurisdiction of Moscow Patriarchy. Took part in meetings of Eastern patriarchs. Member, Russia Orthodox Church delegation Lambeth Conference, England.
Participated in meetings with members of World Council of Churches in Utrecht and Amsterdam. Took part in Moscow talks between theologians of Russia Orthodox Church and Church of England. 1932-1950 teacher of foreign languages.
1950-1952 teacher, Leningrad Theol. Seminary; ordained priest. 1953-1955 lecturer, Leningrad Theol.
Academy; later took monastic vows and became Bishop of Luga and Vicar to Metropolitan of Leningrad. 1955-1957 Bishop of Vyazma, then Bishop of Smolensk and Dorogobuzh. 1957-1959 Bishop of Berlin and Germany, retaining title of Bishop of Smolensk and Dorogobuzh.
