From 1882 appeared in amateur productions. 1884-1885 acted for Saint St. Petersburg clubs and summer theaters (Pavlovsk, Oranienbaum, etc). Then acted in Vitebsk, Minsk, Zhitomir, Vilnius, et cetera
1892-1894 impressario in Saint St. Petersburg. 1894-1898 toured provinces. 1898-1899 at Moscow Arts Theater.
From 1905 taught stagecraft. 1902-1924 actor and director, Alexandrine Theater. Roles: Hamlet, Shylock.
