1907-1919 associate, 1919-1934 professor, Saint St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Polytech Institute. 1929-1939 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. From 1933 worked for Power Engineer Institute, LISSR Academy of Sciences.
1937-1949 also professor, Moscow Power Engineer Institute. Also worked for Institute of Physical Engineer, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences, Centr Boiler and Turbine Institute, et cetera Did research on improving the efficiency of steam boilers and the accuracy of thermal calculations.
Studied the combustion of coal dust and the use of high-pressure steam in power plants. Studied the physical properties of the operation of thermal equipment. Devised model-operation theory (KirpiehyovGukhman theorem), whose third similarity theorem is widely used in hydraulics, thermal engineering, power engineering, chemistry, et cetera
