Career
From 1904 worked at various clinics in West Europe. 1906-1924 worked at L. South. Minor’s Clinic, Higher Women's Courses (now 2nd Moscow Medical Institute). 1918 defended doctor’s thesis on apraxia.
1921 organized Medical Faculty. Belorussian University, Minsk. From same year head, Chair of Nervous Diseases, Belorussian University.
From 1932 head, Chair of Nervous Diseases, 2nd Moscow Medical Institute. From 1933 until death director Clinic of Nervous Diseases, All-Union Institute of Experimental Medical
Treated gnosis, praxis and speech as interconditioning parts of a single process. Studied synergic and tonic reflexes. Did research on chronaxic, repercussion, et cetera
Also studied viral nervous infections (leprosy, rabies, typhus, epidemic encephalitis). 1937-1938 did research on then new Taiga encephalitis. Analyzed adaptive role of nervous system.
Wrote over 120 works. His handbook iVevrologicheskiye sindromy (Neurological Syndromes) has become a standard work for specialists in the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics and abroad.
