Parenago Mikhail Pavlovich was a Russian collector and bibliophile. Of noble birth. He was an officer of the 141st Mozhaisky Infantry Regiment, an art teacher in the Voronezh Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps. His book collection included art publications, literature on the history of art.
Background
Parenago Mikhail Pavlovich was born on the 6th of November, 1852 in Gremyachie village, Voronezh district. He was the son of Pavel Apollinarievich Parenago, the brother of Xenophon Pavlovich Parenago, a cousin of Mikhail Klavdievich Parenago.
Education
Parenago Mikhail Pavlovich studied at the Voronezh Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps (until 1870), graduated from the Chuguev Cadet School in 1873.
Career
Parenago Mikhail Pavlovich was an officer of the 141st Mozhaisky Infantry Regiment (1873-1891). Simultaneously the art teacher in the Voronezh Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps (1889-1905). Member of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. Deputy Head of the Voronezh district (1891-1909). Member of the provincial district council, district school council. State Councillor. Member of the Voronezh Church Historical and Archeological Committee (1900).
In the Parenago’s collection, there were portraits of Emperor Alexander I, S.N. Marina (works by O. Kiprensky), N.N. Muravyov-Karsky (all published in the book “Voronezh nobility in the Patriotic War”, Moscow, 1912), A.S. Tulinova (works by F.S. Rokotov), drawing by C.P. Pavlova. The book collection included art publications, literature on the history of art. Some copies from the S.Е. Marina library was transferred to Parenago. Materials from the Parenago’s collection were exposed at all exhibitions of the provincial museum (since 1896).
