Studied at Odessa non-classical high-school.
Worked at Odessa plant. Met Ye. O. Zaslavskiy and became active member, South Russian Workers’ League. Attended meetings, distributed pamphlets and acted as cashier and deputy, League group at Blanshard Plant.
January 1876 arrested. 1877 tried in case of South Russian Workers’ League and exiled to Tobol’sk Province. From 1884 lived in Odessa under secret police surveillance.
Organized Sunday schools, health insurance schemes, factory libraries and reading rooms. 1907 helped organize All-Russian Teachers’ Congress, for which he was again arrested. 1917 active in establishing public libraries.
Department head, Odessa Public Library. Worked for Odessa Archives of the Revol. Contributed to “Katorga i ssylka” and other journals.
