Studied at secondary school.
From 1880 in revol movement. While still at secondary school conducted revol propaganda and organized Marxist circles among urban workers, farm laborers and poor peasants. 1888 propaganda work in Tiflis, Baku, Batum and Kutaisi.
1897 expelled from Caucasus for five years. 1898—1900 Party work in Khar’kov and Yekaterinoslav. 1900 arrested in Yekaterinoslav and in 1902 exiled to his place of birth under police suveillance.
Fled ent went underground. Helped lead, Caucasian Joint Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Committee. 1903 helped prepare 2nd Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congress but could not attend congress since he was engaged in organizing general strike in Caucasus.
1905 helped prepare and attended 3rd Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congress. As the senior ranking deleg, opened first meeting of 3rd Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congress. 1906 arrested and interned in Metekhi Prison, Tiflis.
1907 delcg at 5th (London) Party Congress. 1907-1917 lived in Geneva. After 1917 February Revol returned to Russian together with Lenin.
Then went to Caucasus to strengthen Bolshevik comts. 1917-1920 member, Tiflis Party Committee. June 1919 arrested and jailed in Kutaisi Prison.
May 1920 released; from February 1921, after establishment of Soviet regime in Geo, exec Soviet and Party posts. 1921-1922 Geo Soviet Socialist Republic plenipotentiary in Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. Chairman, Transcaucasian SFSR Central Executive Committee.
Chairman, Geo Central Executive Committee. Member, Central Committee, Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Georgia Delegation at 11 th;13th, 15th and 16th Party Congresses.
Attended all Communist International Congresses (except 1st). Member, Communist International Executive Committee. From 1931 Presidium member, International Control Commission.
