One of the highest-paid doctors in the Soviet Union in the 1960s. For 15 years, in charge of the Kremlin Maternity Hospital with a staff of 380, of whom 76 were top surgeons. Among his patients were the wives and daughters of members of the government, foreign diplomats’ wives and the artistic elite, including the daughter of Premier Kosygin, Brezhnev’s daughter Galina, Khrushchev’s wife Nina, the first woman in space Valentina Tereshkova, the famous ballerina Plisetskaia, and the wife of A. Solzhenitsyn, Natalia Svetlova, (because of whom he was fired from his job).
Emigrated in 1977 to Paris. Works there as a gynaecologist at the Hospital Port-Royal. Writes medical articles for the Russian emigre press.
