1907-1924 therapist and infectionist, then head Therapeutic Department, Obukh Hospital, Saint St. Petersburg. 1914-1917 military surgeon at various hospitals.
1922-1924 assistant professor, 1924-1930 associate professor Therapeutic Clinic, Leningrad Medical Institute. 1930-1962 head, Chair of the Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases, Leningrad Medical Institute.
1934-1941 consultant at military hospitals. 1942-1950 chief therapist, Leningrad City. Together with Georgia Ivashentsov and Master of Arts Zhitkov devised method of intravenous injection of saline solutions as part of cholera treatment.
First Soviet therapist to treat lung gangrene with neosalvarsan. From 1934 studied influenza and influenzal pneumonia, formulating their clinical description and classification. Proved experimentally that influenza is infectious.
Together with Associate of Arts Smorodintsev studied active and passive influenza immunization. Described the BittofTushiniskiy phenomenon, the “granulous smear” symptom and blood pictures of various internal and infectious diseases. First Soviet therapist to apply antidotes against poisoning by heavy metals.

Honorary member, All-Union Therapists Social. Wrote over 100 sci works, dealing with clinical aspects and bacteriology of cholera, typhus, dysentery, Botkin’s disease, study of blood picture and hematogenic organs in the case of infection.
