Mikio Naruse was born on Auguat 20, 1905 in Tokyo, Japan.
He entered Kamata studio of the Shochiku Motion Picture Company.
Also he worked under directors Yoshinobu Ikeda and Heinosuke Gosho.
In 1929 Mikio became director, and first directed comedies. When the wartime pressure was tightened, he entered into a long period of failures. After the war he directed the film "Ginza Kesho" which solidified his position. This was followed by such outstanding films as "Meshi" (The Meal), "Ani Imoto" (Brother and Sister), "Bangiku" (Late Chrysanthemum). These films depicted the psychology of the common people with rare realism.
