Millie Bobby Brown is a British actress. Brown is best known for her breakout role as telekinetic child Eleven in Netflix's science fiction horror series Stranger Things.
Background
Millie Bobby Brown was born on February 19, 2004, at HC International Hospital, in Marbella, Andalusia, Spain, she was the third of four children of English parents, Kelly and Robert Brown. She has a brother named Charlie and sisters named Paige and Ava. Her family moved back to the United Kingdom when Brown was four years old and then moved to Orlando, Florida, four years later to start an entrepreneurial business. It was there that she was spotted by a talent scout who told her parents "she has instincts you cannot teach."
Education
Millie Bobby Brown studied at Pokesdown Primary Community School in Bournemouth, Dorset County, England. She studied at this particular school for 4 years. She has revealed that she was forced to move schools after being bullied. Nowadays, Brown is home-schooled in order to make it easier to pursue an acting career. As per an interview with British Vogue in 2016, she was using an online tutor for her studies, which helped her fit education in her cramped work schedule.
Brown's parents sacrificed everything - moving their family to Los Angeles - to see Brown's acting dreams come true. Millie went to acting workshops to pass time on a Saturday, and it was there that a top Hollywood talent scout called and advised Millie's parents that she could "mix it with the best kids in Hollywood." They packed up and drove from Orlando to Los Angeles, and within a week, Millie was meeting with the town's top children's talent agencies. She was offered representation by all the agents that she met. Within three months of being in Hollywood, Millie was cast as young Alice in ABC's fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (2013), a spin-off of Once Upon a Time (2011).
Talented as she is, Brown landed the role of Madison O'Donnell in BBC America's show, Intruders just off a home-shot audition tape in November 2013. The producers didn’t even need a face-to-face meeting as they normally insist on. While Brown continued finding work in smaller roles on shows like NCIS, Modern Family, and Grey’s Anatomy, she kept getting passed up for bigger roles. With no major jump in her career, her family had become so financially strained, they moved back to the United Kingdom to live with an aunt. "I was devastated. I wasn’t getting work. I thought I was done," said Brown in an interview.
However, as things were looking bleak, Brown landed an audition for Netflix's Stranger Things. "I had to cry in the audition. My emotions were so raw, I hit it out of the park," she said. Weeks later, Brown was on a plane to begin filming in Atlanta.
Set in a 1980s Indiana town facing a threat from paranormal activity, Stranger Things became a hit upon its release in 2016, earning an array of awards. Meanwhile, Brown was heralded as one of its breakout performers for her role of Eleven, a girl with telekinetic powers.
The show's success was such that its primary actors all scored big raises heading into the July 2019 release of season 3, with Brown rumored to be earning as much as its best-known star, Winona Ryder.
In November 2016, Brown starred in the music video for Sigma and Birdy's single Find Me. Since November 2016, she has appeared in commercial advertisements for Citigroup. In January 2017, she made her modeling debut in Calvin Klein's By Appointment campaign. The following month, she was signed to the agency IMG Models. She appeared in the campaign of the Italian brand Moncler in the summer of 2018. In 2018, she also appeared in Maroon 5’s music video, Girls Like You. Similarly, she appeared in Drake’s song, In My Feelings.
Brown made her feature film debut in 2019, in the sequel to Godzilla, titled Godzilla: King of the Monsters. She will reprise her role in Godzilla vs. Kong. In March 2019, it was announced Brown will be starring in the film adaptation of The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin as Suzy.

Millie Bobby Brown became a Goodwill Ambassador for Unicef. With just 14 years, this makes her the youngest person in history to be appointed the position. Brown spoke out for the millions of children whose voices are silenced across the world, empower them and make sure they know their rights. Millie is also actively involved in UNICEF's #GoBlue campaign, for World Children's Day. She supported the fundraising for a patient diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Brown accepted the best actor award Sunday night at the MTV Movie and TV Awards for her role as Eleven in Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things wearing two political pins. One was a blue ribbon which recognizes the American Civil Liberties Union, and the other was a light blue ampersand pin to honor the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Together movement.
Quotations:
"For some reason, I like seeing people feel emotional. My dad doesn't ever cry, but watching this show, he did. I'm like if I get that response from people, then maybe I'm making them more soft, you know? I kind of like that."
"I just started to sing, and if I sound bad, I don't care, because I'm just doing what I love. You don't have to be good at singing. You don't have to be good at dancing or acting. If you like to do it, if you genuinely enjoy doing it, then do it. No one should stop you."
"The day I shaved my head was the most empowering moment of my whole life. The last strand of hair cut off was the moment my whole face was on show and I couldn’t hide behind my hair like I used to. The only image I had in my head about what I could possibly look like is Charlize Theron in Madmax. As I looked at myself and couldn’t see my old self, I realized that now; I have a job to do and that is to inspire other girls that your image or exterior part is not what I think is important. What I find important is caring, loving and inspiring other girls. Thought to share my thoughts during this life-changing moment."
"Acting is like breathing to me, I felt, at one point, I couldn't do it anymore."
Personality
Brown's mother selects all of her outfits to make sure that she is dressed appropriately for her age. Meanwhile, the unfortunate meme #takedownmilliebobbybrown was gaining steam on social media. Beginning with a user who accused Brown of pulling off her hijab and stamping on it, the thread took on a life of its own as people relayed exaggerated stories of the actress attacking them while delivering expletive-filled homophobic comments. Brown ultimately deactivated her Twitter account in June 2018.
