Milton Earl Beebe was born on November 27, 1840. A grandson of one of the original settlers of Buffalo, and a veteran of the Civil War (in which he served with the New York Ninth Cavalry).

Mr. Beebe practiced as an architect in Buffalo. Beginning as a carpenter's assistant before the outbreak of the Civil War, he worked and studied architecture in both Buffalo and New York until 1873, when he established his own office in Buffalo Among his best-known works in that city were the Manufacturers' & Traders' Bank; the Jewett Building; Miller & Grenier Building; the Exchange Building, and a fire-proof structure for the J. R. Austin Estate. In addition, he designed several churches, one known example being the Episcopal Church of St. Thomas at St. Catherine, Ontario, Canada, also County Court Houses in Niagara and Schuylkill counties, New York, and Warren and Huntington counties in Pennsylvania.
In later years Mr. Beebe's son, Henry, (born 1865) was associated with him in practice under the firm name of M. E. Beebe & Son. Among other buildings in Buffalo, they designed was the Mooney-Brisbane Building
