Minas Gekos

Career

At 6"1.75" (187 m) in height, he played at the point guard and shooting guard positions. Gekos started his playing career with İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi in 1975. He later went to Greece, and joined AEK Athens, where he played until 1991.

Then he continued his career with Panathinaikos (1991-1994), and he returned to AEK Athens, for the last season of his career as a player (1994-1995).

Achievements

• Won the Greek Cup in 1981 with AEK. Played in the Greek Cup finals in 1978, 1980, and 1988 with AEK Member of the Panathinaikos roster that won the Greek Cup in 1993, but he didn"t played in the final. Overall, played in 4 Greek Cup Finals, and scored 72 points. He is one of the best ever scorers in the Greek Basket League, having scored 6,131 points in the A National and First Rate (at Lloyd's) National categories. He played in 188 games, and scored 2,701 points, in the First Rate (at Lloyd's) National. He played in 53 games with the senior men"s national team of Greece. He played at the EuroBasket 1979 and the EuroBasket 1983. He won the Greek League championship as an assistant coach in 1998 and 1999.
