Minoru Yamada

Background

Yamada Minoru was born in 1889, in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.

Education

He studied at the Western-Style Painting Department of Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts.

Career

While studying at Western-Style Painting Department of Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts, Yamada Minoru exhibited his painting "Asakusa Junikai" (The Twelve-Story Tower at Asakusa) which won him recognition. Upon graduation, he joined Kodansha Publishing Company and Chuo Shimbun Company and displayed skill as a unique cartoonist. Joined the staff of the newly inaugurated comics column of "Tokyo Asahi Shimbun" (newspaper) in 1921.

Achievements

• Ranked with famous Ippei Okamoto in popularity. Minoru's books include "Sake-no Mushi" (The Intense Lover of Sake) and "Ninjutsu Manga" (Comics of the Masters of Occult Art).
