Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum

Background

Cedarbaum, Miriam Goldman was born on September 16, 1929 in New York City. Daughter of Louis Albert and Sarah (Shapiro) Goldman.

Education

Born into a middle-class Jewish family, Cedarbaum grew up in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. Judge Cedarbaum attended Barnard College (Bachelor 1950), and then Columbia Law School (Bachelor of Laws 1953).

Career

Cedarbaum was nominated by Ronald Reagan on February 3, 1986, to a seat vacated by Charles East. Stewart. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on March 3, 1986, and received her commission on March 4, 1986. Judge Cedarbaum assumed senior status on March 31, 1998, serving in that status until her death.

Cedarbaum oversaw the case against the would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Tuesday, October 5, 2010.
