After playing youth football for SV Rees, Football Club Schalke 04 and MSV Duisburg, Boland signed his first professional contract in 2008 with Duisburg. Previously he had also played in the club"s reserve team He couldn"t break into the first team during the 2008-2009 season, and transferred to 3.
