Mitrofan Stepanovich ZVEREV


Mitrofan ZVEREV, USSR Astronomer. Professor; corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1953; Deputy Director, Main Astronomical Observatory, USSR Academy of Science, Pulkovo, since 1951. Member, Communist Party, since 1947.


ZVEREV, Mitrofan was born in 1903.


1929 graduated Moscow Conservatory. 1931 graduated Moscow University.


Specialist in meridional astronomy. Carried out observations on the meridional circle at Moscow and Pulkovo. Has compiled a series of stellar catalogues, including a catalogue of geodetical stars and a catalogue of fundamental faint stars.

Organized work on an international scale needed to compile a new fundamental coordinates system, i. e., a catalogue of faint stars. Has also done research on the time service, gravimetry and variable stars. 1931-1951 at Shternberg Astronomical Institute, Moscow.

1938-1948 instructor, 1948-1952 Professor, Moscow University.
