Mitsuharu Kaneko was born in Aichi Prefecture in Japan.
Briefly attended Waseda, Keio universities and an art school, leaving all three without graduating to proceed to Europe for further studies (1918).
Returning home published his first book of poems titled "May Beetle" (1921). Later made two tours of Shanghai (1926, 1928) on which Mitsuharu Kaneko based another book titled "Wanderings of Water." The following year he left for France (1929) returning home (1934). He was against the Emperor system and the waging of war, which sentiment was evident in his book of poems titled "Shark."
